Kristine Hatanaka

Mrs. Kristine Hatanaka graduated
with Honors and holds a BA in Art from California
State University Fullerton. She currently teaches
Drawing and Painting and AP Studio Art. Mrs. Hatanaka
is the Advisor for the National Art Honor Society
(Starving Young Artists) and is the Chair of the Academy’s
Art Department. Mrs. Hatanaka has established internships,
educational programs, and student exhibitions withThe
Museum of Contemporary Art, The Los Angeles County
Museum of Art, UCLA Fowler Museum, Santa Monica Museum
of Art, and The Ryman Program at USC. She has implemented
college level art classes through The Santa Monica
College Outreach Program, West Los Angeles College
Jumpstart Program, and The Santa Monica College Launchpad
Program. Her students have received scholarships,
award recognition, and participated in exhibitions
on the local, regional, and national levels. Mrs.
Hatanaka was the recipient of the International Teaching
Program in Japan and received Teacher of the Year
honors from Otis College of Art and Design. She is
currently serving on the UCLA Fowler Museum Education
Advisory Committee. In 2003,
she received Mentor Teacher of The Year from The Ryman
Program. In 2004, Kristine was a recipient of the
SURDNA Arts Teacher Fellowship. She is also the Winner
of the 2005 California Association for the Gifted
May V. Seago Memorial Scholarship. In 2005, Kristine
received the Sony Pictures Teacher of the Year Award
for CCUSD. She was also the recipient of the Teacher
Institute of Contemporary Art at the School of the
Art Institute of Chicago.

Dr. Tony Spano

Dr. Tony Spano, Jr. is currently in his tenth year at Culver City High School. As Creative Director of Music for the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, Dr. Spano teaches all the music classes at CCHS as well as coordinating all Academy music activities. His tenure has included developing a marching band, establishing Concert Band, Guitar and Choral programs, and offering specialized opportunities for music performance with such groups as a Jazz Ensemble and rock/pop bands, as well as collaborations with theatre, film, dance, and art projects. Under his direction, the CCHS Concert Choir and Concert Band have received "Gold," "Superior," and "Excellent" ratings in recent festival performances. Dr. Spano is originally from Colorado and received a B.M.E. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received his M.F.A. and D.M.A. in conducting from UCLA before coming to CCHS. Outside of Culver High, Dr. Spano's variety of interests includes volunteer work for Pacific Serenades, a successful Los Angeles-based chamber music series, where he currently serves as President of the Board of Directors (www.pacser.org).
In 2006, he was selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities to receive a grant to attend the "Mozart's Worlds" institute in Vienna, Austria. In 2005 he won a Surdna Foundation Arts Teacher Fellowship which allowed him to attend the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles conference in Singapore. In Spring 2003, Dr. Spano was named one of ten finalists for the California League of High School's "Educator of the Year" program in Region 8 (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Kern, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties). He was also selected to participate in the Toyota International Teacher Program which featured a two week professional development tour of Japan in the summer of 2003.

Cari Ann
Henderson (Artistic

Cari Ann is in her seventh year with the AVPA and her fourth year of serving as the Chair of the Culver City Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Dance Department. She designed, developed and founded the department in June 2003. She teaches various techniques of dance and choreography, and produces the bi-annual Dance Off! Dance concert. She is a professional Choreographer and dancer serving the greater Los Angeles Art Scene for the past 13 years. She is an Alumni of the UCLA World Arts and Cultures Department, with a BA in Choreography and Performance Art. She specializes in Choreography for film, and works as a film maker in her field. She's screened her films at Dance Camera West Film Festival and at UCLA. She's performed professionally for Victoria Marks, David Rousseve, Nzingha Camara, Nina Kaufman, Julie Carson, Dmitri Kmelnitski, Ichuro Irie and Norton Wisdom. She has choreographed for the UCLA WAC department, the UCLA Opera Department, Los Angeles Guild Opera, Cirque du Soliel, Narnia Productions, The Chance Theater, Tiny Band Productions, Cabaret X, Track 16, Fresh Tracks, and Highways. Cari Ann is a first year Graduate Student pursuing an MFA in Choreography at UCLA's World Arts and Cultures Department. [top]

Kenneth Campbell
(Theatre Professor)
Mr. Kenneth Campbell has been an
actor for over thirty years. He has performed all
over the world and has acted in every one of Shakespeare's
plays. Stage is not Mr. Campbells only forte.
He is also a veteran of television and the silver
screen. His film credits include "Ulees
Gold", "Mars Attacks", "Cobb",
and "The Abyss". His TV credits include
"War & Remembrance", "Murder 101",
"Matlock", "LA Law", "Cheers",
"Picket Fences", and "Another World".
On Broadway he was in "Biloxi Blues", "Caine
Mutiny Court Martial", "Macbeth", "Freedom
of the City", and "Cyrano". Other theatre
credits include "Don Juan", "Tracers",
"Richard the II", "The Taming of the
Shrew", and "Titus Andronicus". He
currently teaches voice and articulation and directs
in the theatre department.

Bart DeLorenzo

Mr. Bart DeLorenzo received his
BA in Literature and Theatre from Yale and his Masters
in Directing from Harvard. He is the founder and Artistic
Director of the Evidence Room Theater. His directing
credits include "Flow My Tears the Policemen
Said", "One Flea Spare", "Almost
Blue", "A Bright Room Called Day",
"Fifth of July", "Don Juan", "The
Life of Stuff", "The Houseguests",
and "Swell". He has taught at Harvard and
UCLA. He is currently a guest director in the theatre
department and serves on the Academy's Advisory Council.

Doyle Hanks

Mr. Doyle Hanks not only graduated
from UCLA with a degree in theatre but is also a Culver
City High alumnus. Mr. Hanks performs standup comedy
throughout Los Angeles. His directing credits include
"1984", "The Diary of Anne Frank",
"Brighton Beach Memoirs", "The Bald
Soprano", and "15 Minute Hamlet". His
design credits include "The Diviners", "1984",
and "Pippin". He currently teaches improvisation,
stagecraft, comedy sportz, and directs for the theatre

Omar Inguanzo

Mr. Omar Inguanzo is a graduate
of the film and theatre programs at AVPA and is a
graduate of the Los Angeles Film School. He currently
works throughout Southern California as a sound designer,
lighting designer, and film editor. His theatre credits
include "Into the Woods", "The Wiz",
"Pippin", "Crimes of the Heart",
"Java Drama", "The Diviners",
"A Midsummer Night's Dream", "1984",
"The Glass Menagerie", "The Mousetrap",
"The Angelina Project", "Confirmation",
"Therese Raquin" (Chance Theatre), "One
Flea Spare", and "Flow My Tears the Policeman
Said" (The Evidence Room). His film credits include
"King of the Road" and "the American
Hero". He currently works in both the film and
theatre departments as a technical director.

Cheolseung
Kim (Theatre Professor)
Born in Seoul, Korea in 1971, Cheolseung
went on to graduate from Yonsei University at Seoul
in the department of Philosophy in 1998. Since coming
to America in August, 1999, he finished his MFA in
Directing at UCLA Department of Theater. Past directing
credits include "If Flower", "An Acquainted
Mans Visit", "Byol-Ly", "Equus",
"Waiting for Godot", "The Lesson",
and "The Hunger Artist Departs". He has
been acting, designing, and writing but still he is
a theatre director and will always be. [top]

Leon Martell
(Film/Theatre Professor)
Mr. Leon Martell received his BA
in theatre and history from the University of Vermont
and his MFA with a specialization in directing from
the University of Iowa. He has taught at the University
of Iowa, Occidental College, UCLA, and is an instructor
for A.S.K. Theater Projects Playwrights in the Schools.
His Directing credits include "Hoss Drawin",
"1961 El Dorado", "Twin Otter",
"Guys at the Spunk Hole", "Kindling",
and "The Big Picture". As a writer Mr. Martells
credits are endless (from stage, film, to television)
and include "Hoss Drawin", "Billy Chops
Bricks", and "Mooncalf". His acting
credits include "Twelfth Night", "Danube",
"The Match Maker", and "Picket Fences".
He currently teaches scriptwriting and movement for
the Academy's film and theatre students.

Darryl McCane
(Film/Theatre Professor)
Mr. Darryl McCane received his BA
in Radio, Television, & Film from San Jose State
and his Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia University
in New York. His film credits include "The Big
Split", "The Girl in the Watermelon",
"Steel Heel", and "Temptation".
His theatre credits include "A Soldiers
Play", "The Colored Museum", "Death
of a Salesman", and "One Flew Over the Cuckoos
Nest". Mr. McCane currently teaches Cinema History
and Elements of Film Production in the Film Department.
He also teaches Acting in the Theatre Department.

Jane McEneaney
(Theatre Professor)
Miss McEneaney graduated from Connecticut
College with a B.A in Theatre Arts and Asian Studies
and from the University of Michigan with a MA in Music
in Voice Performance. She is currently the Artistic
Director for the M.Y.E Theatre Company in Los Angeles.
On stage she has been seen in "The Matchmaker",
"A Question of Loyalty", "Life/Magazine",
"The Metamorphosis", "The Contrast",
"As You Like It", "Les Belles Soeurs",
"The Mikado", "Lady in the Dark",
"Starting Here, Starting Now", "Patience",
and "Air and Opportunity". Miss McEneaney
is a director in the theatre department and specializes
in developing new material with students. She also
teaches Creative Dramatics.

Nate Nichols
(Film Professor)
Nate Nichols graduated from the
University of Michigan with a degree in English.
He earned the Hopwood writing award while at Michigan.
He went on to study film at Columbia University
in New York City were he received his M.F.A. Nate
has years of experience as a writer for the L.A.
New Times, the Dallas Observer, MCA Records and
Launch.com. He has also had numerous positions on
production and post-production with New Line Cinema
where he worked on over 20 feature films.

Stacey Wilson
(Producing Manager)

This is Stacey’s second
year as the Producing Manager for the Academy and
is so proud to be here. She has a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree with an Acting Emphasis from the University
of Kentucky and moved to Los Angeles in 1992. Stacey
jumped right into performances with sketch comedy
and improv groups all over L.A. She has produced
and performed in several independent theatrical
productions, as well as various television and film
projects. Her other credits include producing television
shows for HGTV and the Food Network, promos for
the WB and King World, independent music videos
and a 35mm feature film, "Turmoil". Stacey
gives thanks to the faculty, students and parents
for their commitment to arts education.
