Selected students
of the Shim Sham Move Co. will be dancing in the
UCLA Fowler Museum Carnival Procession, part of
a year long project between the Fowler and the AVPA.
Kristine Hatanaka and Cari Ann Henderson have been
attending workshops at the Fowler, and teaching
classes to accompany the project. Students visited
the Fowler Museum last school year to see the Haitian
Flag exhibit, followed by the making of 4 Haitian
flags by Kristine's art students. These flags will
be used for the procession. This year the students
will visit the Fowler to see the Carnival exhibit,
followed by more flag making, music & dance
workshops, and finally the procession. Several high
schools are participating in this project from all
over Los Angles. The AVPA is honored to have this
opportunity to work hand in hand with the Fowler
Museum.
