The Advanced
Tap Company, the Tappa Tappa Tappas will be performing
at UCLA for the Opening of the Glorya Kaufman Dance
Building on October 22nd. Cari Ann Shim Sham* will
also be screening one of her dance films, FLY, at
this event.
The WAC is Back open house celebrates
the public debut of the newly redesigned Glorya
Kaufman Hall with live performances, installations,
film screenings, and exhibitions by Department of
World Arts and Cultures (WAC) alumni, faculty, and
students.
In addition to a full slate of
performances on three stages-from traditional Javanese
court dance to a folklore slideshow and lecture
to modern dance set to visceral rock music-artists
and scholars will be on hand to discuss their films,
which include a documentary tracing the building's
history by adjunct associate professor John Bishop
and Kristen Smiarowski M.F.A. '02 and Tom Keegan's
documentary of WAC Acting Chair David Gere's recent
work with AIDS activists in India.
Companion exhibitions will be
on view at the adjacent Fowler Museum of Cultural
History. There will also be food, family music and
dance activities, and tours of the building. The
event is free and open to the public.
