Synopsis :

Many of the classics of the golden age of Hollywood musicals were filmed right here in Culver City at the old MGM Studios, now the Sony Pictures lot. One of the most famous and beloved films is "Singin' in the Rain," starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and the 19-year old newcomer, Debbie Reynolds. Often voted as the best musical film ever made, the stage version was created by the 1980s by the original screenwriters, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. For the first time in Culver City, Culver City High School's Academy of Visual & Performing Arts presents "Singin' in the Rain" on the Robert Frost Auditorium stage March 18-22. The show features some of the most well-known tunes of Hollywood musical history, including the title song, "Make "Em Laugh," "Good Morning," and "Lucky Star."

With a creative team including director/conductor Tony Spano, Jr., choreographer Julie Carson, vocal director Lisa Michel, set designer Ian Marsh, lighting designer François-Pierre Couture, producer Farhang Pernoon, film director Alexis Butler, and costume designer Jessica Champagne-Hansen, the 60-plus AVPA student actors, technical crew members, filmmakers, and musicians involved in this production have received professional quality education while learning the classic story of Hollywood's transformation from silent pictures to the talkies. The production features filmed scenes, just like in the MGM movie, which were made in collaboration with the AVPA film department.
